Ibis Styles Ambassador Gangnam Review – Best Budget Hotel

Hello KOREAwise readers! I’m Sophie Kim, a writer who loves to do deep dives into Seoul’s coolest hotels. Today, I’m excited to share my personal experience and detailed review. I stayed at the Ibis Styles Ambassador Gangnam, a hotel right in the heart of Gangnam.

This budget hotel in Seoul truly stands at the perfect intersection of business and style. I wanted to see if the Ibis Styles Ambassador Gangnam lived up to its reputation, and I wasn’t disappointed.

My Take on Ibis Styles Ambassador Gangnam

This 3.5-star hotel is at 431 Samseong-ro, Gangnam-gu. It has been on my radar for a while, especially since I travel so often for business. Its location is a dream for anyone on a work trip.

The hotel is super close to Teheran-ro, a major economic hub, and the COEX convention center. The best part? COEX is only 0.2 km away. I could walk there in just 5 minutes!

Every staff member I met was incredibly friendly and professional. This made my stay so pleasant, from check-in until I left. The lobby, true to the “Ibis Styles” brand, was vibrant and unique, with plenty of seating. The staff also kept my room spotless and well-maintained. All in all, this budget hotel in Seoul offers amazing value for the price, and I found it to be a great, budget-friendly option.

I should mention one thing, though. My room at the Ibis Styles Ambassador Gangnam was in good condition. However, I saw reviews from other guests who mentioned outdated furniture and fixtures, like old showerheads. The hotel was built in 2003.

They last renovated it in 2015, so some rooms may not have been updated yet. If you are particular about modern facilities, you might want to ask for a renovated room, like a Superior room or above, when you book. Also, some guests reported noise issues in the connecting rooms. If you are a light sleeper, it’s probably a good idea to double-check this at check-in.

A Deep Dive into the Standard Double Room at Ibis Styles Ambassador Gangnam

For my stay, I booked a Standard Double Room. At 19m², it was the perfect size for one person—cozy but not cramped. I did see a review from someone who felt the space was too small, but I found it to be a really practical and comfortable size. The room had a great desk and chair for my laptop. The city view was a nice touch, too, making the space feel more open. I will say, though, the window wasn’t very clean. That was a little disappointing for the view.

A person in a denim jacket and black pants walks away from the viewer down a narrow, traditional street in Seoul, flanked by a white brick wall and a distant view of other pedestrians. The GetYourGuide logo is in the top left corner, with the main text: "DON'T JUST WALK THE STREETS. INVEST ONE DAY FOR A DEEP UNDERSTANDING OF SEOUL." A "BOOK NOW" button is below, and a smaller text at the bottom reads: "TOUR NEEDED? YOUR BOOKING KEEPS OUR SEOUL CONTENT COMING."

The Bed and Bathroom at the Ibis Styles Ambassador Gangnam

The most important part of any hotel stay is the bed. The large double bed in my room did not disappoint. It was so comfy that I slept like a baby! I know some reviews mentioned it might be a bit tight for two taller adults, but for someone my size, it was perfect. The hotel provided clean and high-quality linens, which made a huge difference.

The private bathroom at the Ibis Styles Ambassador Gangnam was a bit unique. Its curved shape made it feel almost like a capsule hotel. I loved that it had a bidet, and the water pressure in the shower was fantastic.

The only downside was that the shower stall was a little small, and the wall-mounted hairdryer was a bit of a letdown. On the bright side, this budget hotel in Seoul provides eco-friendly toiletries, along with soft towels and a comfy bathrobe. The hotel cares about the little details, and it shows.

The Standard Double Room comes with all the essentials you need for a trip. There’s a flat-screen TV, a mini-fridge, and free WiFi, which was super convenient. I also appreciated the in-room safe and the high-quality linens. The room had reusable leather slippers, a coffee pot, and tea bags, too.

Some of the higher-end rooms, like the Superior rooms, reportedly come with a free mini-bar and a coffee maker, so I might have to try one of those next time!

Price and Value: A True Budget Hotel in Seoul

The room rates here fluctuate based on demand. This hotel is a solid choice. While the average rate is around ₩156,657 per night, you can sometimes find prices as low as ₩106,312. I did a quick search for my stay. I found that for a Thursday, October 2nd, the price for two adults started from about ₩118,101. This was a fantastic deal for a hotel in the heart of Gangnam.

The Breakfast

I had breakfast at the ‘Fresh 365 Dining’ restaurant on the second floor. It is a buffet-style meal that costs ₩29,000 per person, but you can get it for just ₩19,800 if you book in advance. I had heard great things about the breakfast, and it lived up to the hype!

They offered a wide variety of fresh Korean and Western dishes, and everything tasted great—from the fried rice and bacon to the salads and soups. The only downside? The coffee. It was a bit weak and disappointing.

Fitness Facilities

The fitness center on the B1 floor was exactly what I needed. It was well-equipped with the basics. It’s open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., so I could easily fit in a quick workout at this fantastic budget hotel in Seoul.

Other Facilities

I looked for a pool, but unfortunately, there isn’t one here. If a pool is a must-have, you’ll need to look elsewhere. You might find a pool mentioned on some sites. But that’s for the nearby ‘Novotel Ambassador Seoul Gangnam,’ so don’t get them confused!

Other great amenities include a coin laundry, a business corner, and a stylish bar. I even got a welcome drink coupon at check-in. I used it for a relaxing drink at the bar. The 24-hour front desk and computer station were also very convenient.

Location and Accessibility for Ibis Styles Ambassador Gangnam

The number one reason I chose this hotel was its amazing location. The hotel is at 431 Samseong-ro in Gangnam-gu. It’s just a 3-minute walk from COEX, making it the perfect spot for anyone attending an event.

You can also get around super easily using public transport. I was glad to see it’s close to three major subway stations:

  • Samseong Station (Line 2): About a 9-minute walk from Exit 4.
  • Seolleung Station (Line 2, Suin–Bundang Line): Just a 12-minute walk from Exit 1.
  • Samseong Jungang Station (Line 9): Also very close by.

It’s so close to all these lines. This made it incredibly easy to travel not just around Gangnam but all over Seoul. This budget hotel in Seoul isn’t just “in Gangnam”; it’s a prime choice for anyone who needs the ultimate convenience for business or events at COEX.
