I love finding places that offer a true escape. My recent visit to Le Meridien Myeongdong delivered just that – a serene, French-inspired retreat that felt miles away from the city’s hustle, yet was perfectly located. This truly stands out in Seoul’s vibrant hotel scene.

Opened in late 2022, this 5-star gem quickly became a standout. Its 200 sleek, modern rooms and suites embrace a “Mid-Century Modern” vibe that just oozes timeless elegance. From the moment you step into your room, you will notice cool design touches – like the floor-to-ceiling mirror by the entrance and the airplane wing-shaped art above the bed. Geometric shapes energize the space and, honestly, make you feel pretty energized too!
What I loved most about Le Meridien Myeongdong is its incredible location. Seriously, it’s just a 5-minute stroll from Myeongdong Station (Exit 5) and Euljiro 1-ga Station. This means you are perfectly positioned to dive into all of Seoul’s best shopping and tourist spots, or simply relax and enjoy your peaceful retreat. It’s the best of both worlds!

First Impressions: A Grand Welcome & a Smooth Start

The hotel lobby, located on the 4th floor, is your first glimpse into the hotel’s ‘travel’ and ‘European style’ concept. It instantly reminded me of an airport check-in counter, but far more chic, with airplane-themed wall decor. Even the mobile pendant lighting on the ceiling felt like a nod to the City of Lights – Paris – while also capturing Myeongdong’s vibrant energy. It really set the tone, making me feel like a new journey was about to begin.

Check-in is at 4:00 PM and check-out is at 12:00 PM. I had heard whispers about initial service hiccups when the hotel first opened – things like lack of waiting space or delays for requests. But honestly, my experience was seamless. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, a consistent positive across all reviews. They have definitely ironed out any initial kinks, which is great to see in a new hotel!

My Cozy Urban Retreat: The Deluxe King City View Room

My home for this delightful escape was a Deluxe King City View Room. This spacious 34m² (or about 38m²) haven perfectly embodies that “Mid-Century Modern” aesthetic. Stepping in, a large, full-length window immediately drew my eye, offering a panoramic view of Seoul’s cityscape. Now, ‘city view’ can mean different things to different people. Sometimes in a dense area like Myeongdong, another building (like the Central Post Office) might be in your immediate sightline. If a truly unobstructed, sprawling view is your top priority, consider asking for a higher floor.

Inside, the room felt incredibly well-appointed. A comfy king-size bed and a cozy sofa invited relaxation. Two tables, chairs, a smart TV, and a neatly tucked-away minibar and fridge were also present. They can even add an extra bed, which is awesome if you are traveling with family.

The minibar is cleverly designed as a drawer, keeping things super tidy, though I did notice a slight hum when it ran – something to keep in mind if you are a light sleeper. Luxurious TWG products featured in the coffee and tea selection, a nice touch that elevated the whole experience. Plus, free Wi-Fi meant staying connected was effortless.

The bathroom was spotless, decked out in a crisp black-and-white palette. Malin+Goetz shampoo, conditioner, and body wash were provided in refillable dispensers – a nice nod to sustainability while still offering a premium feel. All the essentials were there: soap, toothbrushes, towels, and a hairdryer. My Deluxe King room had a single sink, and the water pressure was excellent. If you are a bath person, note that bathtubs generally come in Club Rooms and higher categories.

Urban Oasis: The Invigorating Pool & Fitness Center at Le Meridien Myeongdong
One of my favorite parts of the hotel was definitely the swimming pool and fitness center, both located on the 15th floor. Talk about views!

The indoor pool might be on the smaller side with no dedicated lanes, but do not let that deter you. It’s designed with floor-to-ceiling glass on three sides (including the ceiling!), making it feel incredibly open and bright. Seriously, it is an indoor pool that feels anything but claustrophobic! The cityscapes outside – views towards the Chinese Embassy or Lotte Department Store – are pretty spectacular. Swimming under the night sky through the ceiling window was a truly unique experience. It almost feels like you are in New York!

A swimming cap is required for the pool, but here’s a tip: the hotel offers free rentals, so no need to pack one! They also provide life vests and kickboards, which is great for families, making it super kid-friendly. You will find complimentary bottled water next to the yellow towels, too. While cabanas and sunbeds are free, they can get snatched up quickly during peak hours, so plan accordingly. The pool depth is a comfortable 1.2M.

Right next to the pool, the fitness center has a good selection of treadmills and weight machines. While it’s not a massive gym for serious bodybuilders, new Technogym equipment is well-maintained. For most guests looking to keep up with a light workout routine during their stay, it’s more than sufficient. Plus, it’s open 24 hours a day and you access it with your room key, which is incredibly convenient!

A Culinary Journey: La Palette Paris Breakfast Buffet
My mornings started at La Palette Paris restaurant on the 4th floor, where breakfast is served. The restaurant itself is sleek and tidy. Art by Anish Kapoor adorns the walls, adding a lovely cultural touch. It truly feels like an extension of the hotel’s “lifestyle” concept, blending dining with art.

Diverse Culinary Offerings

The breakfast buffet at La Palette Paris might not boast an overwhelming number of dishes, but the overall quality impresses. The Korean options especially stood out to me. There was a fantastic variety of fresh namul (seasoned vegetables), various side dishes, and even a DIY bibimbap (mixed rice) corner. They also served favorites like bulgogi (marinated beef) and galbi (ribs), which are always a hit – especially if you are traveling with older family members who appreciate traditional Korean fare. The live cooking station whips up eggs just how you like them – fried, scrambled, or an omelet with your chosen toppings.

For something a bit different, they offered some unique fusion dishes. Instead of the usual pho, I found a delightful Janchi-guksu (feast noodles) topped with fried shrimp – a surprisingly delicious combination! Steamed flounder, chawanmushi (savory egg custard), chodang sundubu (soft tofu stew), and onsen tamago (soft-boiled egg) were also available, offering a harmonious blend of East and West.
Sweet Endings & Premium Beverages
And for dessert? The gelato bar was an absolute showstopper! Green tea, mango, vanilla, riso (rice) – so many flavors to choose from. It was the perfect refreshing end to my meal. They also had seasonal fruits (like daebong persimmons during my visit), Basque cheesecake, and soy milk pudding. Trust me, the dessert section alone warrants a visit! For drinks, a cafe-quality coffee machine and a selection of TWG teas are available, so you can get your caffeine fix or enjoy a soothing brew.
Value and Expectations

Now, opinions on the breakfast can be a bit polarizing – I have seen reviews range from “hands down, one of the best buffets in Korea” to “the food wasn’t tasty” or “too salty.” I think it really comes down to personal preference. At 60,000 KRW per person, it’s certainly on the pricier side, which naturally raises expectations. For me, the quality of the unique offerings, especially the Korean dishes and the delightful desserts, made it feel worthwhile. It is clear the hotel aims for a distinctive dining experience rather than just a generic buffet.
